Yeh, I've got a story, it's short, *%#%^# paperwork!

I purchased a gs1000gt and drove 200 mile RT drive to pick up.
The seller had paperwork back the last registered owner except for one bill of sale, the one where he bought the bike. He said he knew where it was and would mail it to me.

Some 60 hours work and while still butt ugly, the bike the bike is running good.
Rides great..
Was planning to ride up to mountains.

PO mailed bill of sale but it never got here. Guy he got bike from seems gone from the planet. Now no way to get a tag.

Anyone in Atlanta area with GS1000G frame and enough paperwork to get a tag?
Don't know if shaft swing arm can fit chain frame. If someone does, please advise.

In the meantime the GS is in back of shop under a tarp. I've dragged the 'needs a lot fo work but came with title' KZ1000A1 out to the work area.

"G" frames are completely different in the swingarm. I didn't say it but make your own bill of sale. Otherwisw I would try a title service should run $150

Thanks, for info on shaft swing arm not fitting chain frame and title company tip. Will encourage seller to try and 'find' another bill of sale to him.

I went to the DMV web site and there is a form for 'replacement title' that involves a surety bond. Will check with bonding companies to see what they charge.

If you're in GA, just take the Bill of Sale with the VIN # in and they should give you a tag. Motorcycles under 1986 do not have to be titled in GA to be tagged. (little known loophole) You should be fine. May be different if you purchased out of state though, but they didn't check a thing on mine last year.

You can work on getting it Titled to you later.

How do I know?

When I got my bike the PO couldn't find the title, so I took in a Bill Of Sale saying I traded the bike for a cup of coffee and I walked out the door with my tag a few minutes later.

Was informed bill of sale no good if it's not from last registered owner.
Need a paper trail back to the last registered owner.
Seems to be a recent change in rules.
Bonding company lobby at work perhaps? Maybe not enough 'get me outta this jail' business?

Good news on KZ1000P. I finally managed to catch the seller. Says if he doesn't get title in next two weeks he's gonna give me ltd power of attorney so I can get it. Seems a nice guy but busy. I know he's got the necessary paperwork because I have a photo copy. I also know where he works . Was court ordered auction. The DMV won't issue me the title without issuing one to him, or his attorney, first. It's an 87 so title is required.

As an aside...
I'd like to find an insurance company that won't charge me separate liability for every bike. Hell, I can only ride one at a time! It's not like the bike is at more than the most miniscule almost unimaginable risk of incurring liability on it's own with no rider. Has anyone had any success here? $100/year isn't bad for insurance until you multiply by 4 bikes.

three years ago I bought a bike, from this list. I paid $300 for a 1977 GS750, I knew little but had faith in the list and the 750.
I drove from St. Louis to Joliet I picked up the bike was given a title and a bill of sale.

When I got home I realized the title and the bill fo sale were not from the same person and the title was dated a sale date of 1995.

To make a long story short. I called revenue, spoke with them about my mutilated title and was directed to have a judge issue an order giving me ownership of the bike. this cost me 50.00 in fees and services to an attorney. (The attorny is my neighbor and I am not sure now if he charged me anything at all)

If I was in this spot again. I would claim I purchased the bike from Georgia. Georgia does not require titles on any bike before 1986, as they don't issue titles on these bikes there my Department of Revenue will have some way of accepting a bill of sale.

One of my daughter has been forging my wife's and my names for years withher teachers and I would have her sign a bogus bill of sale from a nice person in Gorgia. The local police will still have to run the numbers and make sure your bike is not stolen etc.

Call your state agency that manages licensing, in Missouri it is the Department of Revenue, tell them you bought a bike from Georgia and have no title as they don't do that, how do you get it titled in your state.

It is best to do this by e-mail so you can bring the e-mail with you to the local DMV to guide them through the process as they will not know what to do.

I know this sounds like I am a bit shading and a crook, but I am opposed to throwing away good old bikes because someone is bad with paper.
