A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Yet another carb issue

Seems like there are quite a few carb issues recently.
Mine has a storied backeground, but suffuce to say...... I rebuilt my 80 GS1100's carb and found that I could not remove 3 of the air/fuel mixture screws so I took it to a mechanic that has otherwise done a real good job for me, and he destroyed the 3 carbs trying to get the screws out, one has no threads left, 2 have easy out parts imbedded in them, and the fourth was the one I was able to get the screw out from in the first place. So I bought a set off of ebay for 75 bucks and it took me two full days to get them clean. The gas in them have gone past jelly to some kind of tartar or plaque like cementish alloy. I used all the parts I had put into my other set and everything seemed right with them.
I put them on the bike and after a couple minutes of coaxing, the bike fired and sounded great, a little high on the RPM, but stron real strong.
Then gas started coming out of the side of left side outer carb.
I looked at my old set and it looks the same to me. Is this a common issue of me forgetting to do something? Is there suppose to be a plug in there? Here is a picture of the problem carb. Sorry the quality isn't a bit better, this camera phone takes better, but only sometimes.

I'm guessing you did not put the carbs in the correct order when you reassembled the rack...
also means the float is stuck

Now it all makes, sense.
I used one carb from the first rack of carbs it was number 3.
The number one carb of the set I got off Ebay also had a destroyed Air/fuel mixture screw, so that's why i used the number 3 carb in its place.
I think I just need to plug that hole up. I wouldn't think the float is stuck, I really cleaned them well and springy pin moved very easily.

If you can find a small freeze plug at auto shop ?? Otherwise I would take one of the connecting tubes & cut a small piece off one end (with O rings) fill the tube with JB weld push it in the hole. Smear a little JB on the outside

Thats a great idea to use on of the extra connectors.
Do you still think the float may be stuck?
