    New build 1980 gs850g aussie

Hi picked this bike up for $500 from a trade in at local Honda dealer. Lucky son is apprentice mechanic at store and saw it come in. Everything is there and was riden in by PO. PO took off registration plates and left bike for shop. Son and I have stripped bike down and frame has been powder coated. Will get photos soon. Wished I had taken some pics during strip down as every thing came off pretty quick. son did most of the strip down and I have been doing clean and rebuild. Have got some parts from Netherlands and some from PartSharks US for rebuild. I need alot more. Chuck Hahn has tried to help with a final drive but cost so much to ship to Aus. Still need final drive, spline and rear disc brake, major parts and a heap of small parts I will get from PartSharks. Maybe they will have a sale one day like Boulevard Suzuki. Some good prices during that one day sale. We are going to trying a keep rebuild original with same colour paint scheme. More to come.........

Nice find for 500 bucks, she looks solid, I recon she will clean up nicely.
Yes the shipping does tend to kill the deal more often than not, the trick is to get a shopping list together buy all your stuff, get someone over there to keep it for you until you have everything, then ship once, save quite a bit of brass that way, but not always possible, I know.
Surely the dealership where junior works, brings in stuff all the time, why not speak to them and see if you could just pop it in the next container/crate coming over, it costs them bugger all.
Following this build with interest, and yes, pics, we like pics, you know that....

Send me a list of parts that you need. I am certain that I have everything that you could need.
I shipped the new spline to another forum member "Oohsam" for his GS1100G cafe build and it was not too terribly expensive considering your location and shipping costs.

I gotta come along for the ride of another Brissie GSR member

Boulevard's prices are normally really good, although that sale was incredible...

I normally buy my parts from them and find them heaps cheaper than a lot of the other online dealers around the place.

You could try Albion Motorcycles but good chance he won't have it, he's gotten rid of most stuff from that era now except a few almost complete bikes. If you haven't dealt with him before, be warned he's an interesting fella... sometimes grumpy sometimes helpful...

Landshark thought you took a photo of my fuel tank. Must rust where fuel is spilt. Do you know what colour the silver is and where did you get the blue pin striping?

                Gear chewed out not repairable

The part that sheared. After reading on BikeCliffs site about the repair job on the other end (Secondary Drive I think its called) I thought I could do it to this. But when pulled apart the gears had been to badly damaged. Tried negotiating with Chuck Hahn for a replacement final drive but shipping costs are slowing me down. Maybe after Christmas we will look at it again.

I have some silver in a tin in the shed, it is the closest match i could get. I will check the code for you.

I got a local guy to scan my old tank and cut me some new stickers.
I am pretty sure he will still have the scans if you are keen.

I've a rear rotor you can have. if you decide to have Chuck send you the final drive, I can ship it to him so it can be included with the final drive.

I can get pictures/measurements upon request.

Thanks Dale, I think I might just take you up on your wonderful offer. Can you send a pic. My rear rotor is below specs I think from memory without going to the shed its below the 6mm min thickness. Spoke to a local company here in Brisbane and they quoted $250 plus the postage to refurbish my old rotor. How much would I be looking at for expenses? I hope Chuck doesnt mind collecting this part and including it with his.

You know guys, I am also looking for a centre stand as mine has a part broken off it, as seen in picture. Maybe if it was not too much trouble having all these parts put together and shipped over it would cut the costs down.

I can see how it sometimes can be alot less expensive just buying another bike for parts......

I've got a centre stand, but it was powder coated red. I wont be using it so you're welcome to have it... (its off a 1100 G, i think they are same..

The powder coat is a total bitch to get off though. Paint stripper and brake fluid wont get it off...trust me I tried on some other pieces!
