Fastenal's prices are very high - even their trade prices are very high. They do have a few items that are tough to find elsewhere, but overall, they are not worth the time.

We stock a fair amount of stainless bolts / fasteners. In our case all the socket head bolts are smooth head - and to get a decent finish, we put many of them in polishing tumblers for as long as 2-3 days.

The majority of the places you buy from will mix-and-match serrated heads with the smooth head bolts - and the lustre on many bolts is very poor out of the package.

Your bolt kits are the way to go. I've also changed a lot of switch gear bolts, mirror bolts, fork crown pinch bolts, headlight bolts, exhaust bolts, rack mounting bolts, etc.
