Toyota's time line for Solid State batteries.

I think Solid state needs to happen for cars before the technology trickles down to motorcycles, producing cars is a much more lucrative market than motorcycles. Honda or possibly a Chinese battery manufacturer may lead the way with SS for motorcycles.

Do we still call them "motor"cycles if they all become EV's?

Why weren't they always ENGINEcycles, my understanding has always been motors are fueled by elect. and engines are fueled by combustion... The new EV bikes will be a more true MOTORcycles.

Not much doubt, when the batts. get to the point 200 mi. on a charge and 10min. recharge, even if they don't last 20 yrs., all of todays service (gas) stns will immediately be installing EV charging stations. Hoping to be there by that 2027 or 28 estimate... Ask me 5 yrs from now, I'll have a much better idea how it's going.

The old argument. Its silly words.
an engine is any driving force so a crate motor is a motor till its installed and harnessed to do work.

I can't argue that point, I've never studied it. Just all my life heard that engines were combustion (ICE) and motors were elect. and never heard it argued any different... That being said I'd guess a train is pulled by an ENGINEMOTOR. Always heard they use a diesel engine, to power a generator that produces electricity, to power an elect motor that pulls the train.... Now that's just way too much for me to dive into.

I believe they're called "diesel electric."

I think in everyday use the words "motor" and "engine" have become interchangeable. Like "internet" and "www." Or "opiate" and "opioid." At least that's what the JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) says.

There are very few of us who know the difference, and we rarely run into each other, so it's mostly moot.

20yrs is pretty good, the average ICE has a 10-11 yr lifespan. With Tesla rentals attaining 400,000 miles that's way more than the typical ICE. Million mile batteries are are projected to be not far off.

Will car chassis that houses the battery disintegrate before the battery dies? Is this logic behind the stainless steel Cybertruck, a chassis that will match the battery lifespan?

Will we be able to buy cars without batteries and transplant our used batteries with a half million miles on it to the new car?

With coming ev domination of the market I expect most gas service stations will disappear, people that can will eventually convert to home charging. Unless they plan a long journey they'll just charge at home for their urban commuting, charge up at home with no service station markup.

We don't refer to cars as horseless carriages anymore.

It'll still have an motor, electric just not ICE.

Will our big boy egos still feel the need to separate our big ev cycles from the little scooter/bike commuters.

We'll find out in 10-15 years where this goes.

The more I look at it, the more the Sondors Metacycle might end up becoming my commuter cycle.

I was referring to what we'll be calling the new ev cycles, motorcycles or something else. They'll be existing side by side for quiet some time.

It's defined as a scooter I don't know how something that has a top end of 130kph is called a scooter.

130kms is acceptable range for urban transport as it is, converted to Solid state in the future it could be ideal with better range, quicker recharge time and power.
