Extra holes drilled into the stock GS650 exhaust pipeI just acquired this bike and it is too noisy and runs poorly. I am sure I will have to pull and check out the 2 carbs ... but I want to start by plugging the 4 holes up in each muffler. Any suggestions as to HOW best to do the plugging? Small self-tapping screws using that liquid weld paste to keep it plugged forever? So plugging the holes should quiet the exhaust back to normal .... but I am also wondering if it will help the engine run better? Not a nice steady idle but gets better with upper rpms.Dennco2

I had an ugly OEM exhaust that had the baffle plates drilled (poorly) by the PO. I found a full exhaust with intact baffles for free. Sounds better definitely. Made absolutely no difference in performance.

You may want to count the number of carburetors. Typically it’s 4. Unless you have a Murray’s 2-carb set up.Links

I should have x2 mufflers you can have (read: free) if you're willing to pay shipping (read: not free)...
Mine are off of a 77 GS550 so you'll want to verify fitment. I have the full exhaust system if interested.

How about an audio of the sound?

It would look better with 4 more holes drilled in each muffler. 1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red 1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.
