20150301_212445.jpgB-o-r-I-n-g. Painted today. The top is getting crown molding, hence the gap of missing paint at the top.
Another snowy/icy/ rainy day, so inside work is less painful. Still waiting to start the bike after rebuilding the carbs after Christmas.

I managed to spend the last few days painting. It's been like 40 years since I've painted anything and not having gear for it I had to resort to rattle cans. Most of the original paint is perfect so I had to match as best I could and actually got the pearl white almost perfect and the blue is about one shade too purple. I'll probably respray that when the weather gets warm and I can do it outside when I finish the black stripe and apply the decals. It actually came out pretty good. The bottom halves of the full fairing still need painting from having an excess of chips and divots through regular use. That will be done when the weather gets better too. My patience for this painting stuff has run out for now.

      Original perfect right fairing

Painted left fairing. Had road rash but it least it wasn't broken and only needed some scrapes filled with spot filler. The good folks at Bdesigns.ca were able to make me a proper set of GS750EF decals from their GS750ES file. Great service from these guys.

A pair of NOS 750ES fairing pieces that had to be painted. It takes about 15 minites to convert from an EF to an ES. I personally like the looks of the ES a little better.

Basically it's ready for the tank, seat and tail piece to back on then a test ride around the block if it warms up a bit. Then the carb sync. Only thing left is some paint work on left fairing and front fender and it will be back to its former glory. I'll tell you all that getting a bike in such great original condition makes me really appreciate the work that goes into some of the projects I see done around here.

I adjusted valves today, as well.
Difference being i had to correct 11 out of 24.

Replaced the oil feed lines to the cylinder head. The crush washers didn't like sealing right up so it took two installs. Started the bike up only to realize that i nicked the fuel line from the petcock.

Soooo, I got to do that too. I also threw my ho.e made DB killers into the V&H cruzers on the VZ and adjusted the windshield brackets.

The floors are original (1955) and were refinished when we moved in a few years ago, but they're pretty banged up now.

Rob came over today to help me do the reg/rec in the 81 1100 today. All good. Yesterday we got the exhaust off my "new" 1100 and engine guards and fork brace, Had the exhaust sandblasted today and will paint it soon. Planning on putting it on my 83 1100e...and putting the V&H from the 83 to the 81. We tried the new exhaust on my 81 1100 and it sounded awesome!!

Also in the mail today came a box from the guy I bought my 81 1100e (the good one) and in it was extra signal lights, and this stuff....he found it in his garage and sent it on to me. Very nice. Oh and check out the Suzuki ash tray. lol

                      Back to the living!

Well I put some plastic and the tank back on today, primed it for about 5 minutes while I pushed outside and even with temps in the garage at near freezing it fired right up. It's sitting in it's ES trim right now and the white is a couple of shades too bright. That's easily adjusted with a couple more coats of the pearl white I have. I did a white base coat with the pearl white on top and stopped at 2 coats, could probably use 2 more. Question though, I'm thinking I should switch the ES fairing mid pieces to blue instead of white, I think it will balance out the looks a bit better. What say you guys? Otherwise I'm real happy with it.

Either way, it looks great. I do see what you mean about the mid panels though. It might look better blue, but I guess it also depend on if you intend to ever put the belly pan back on.

Thanks for your input. I will be putting the belly pan back on but then the ES scoops come off and the belly pan mates directly to the upper fairing so it won't be an issue.

Installed a dynojet kit and *GASP*pods because I could never get a tight seal with the stock airbox and I HATED HATED HATED pulling my carbs out of that bike. There is no room at all and I even ripped one of the carb holders doing it.

The bike started up and idled beautifully and I can't wait for it to warm up outside so I can fine tune it. Now I am going to take a piece of 1/8" aluminum and create a cover for the front of the air box so I can use it for much needed storage. Its a win-win for me.

Everything will be able to be reverted back to stock. I'm not doing any chopping or molesting of the original parts (minus painting the cam caps black)

I didnt catch that they were different. Ive always liked how on my 1150 the black stripe divides the white and blue.
