I bought a 1978 GS1000 about a year ago (and been lurking around here every second day since then
). The bike's mostly original, but hasn't been ridden much the last 20 years. Working in IT, I like to get my hands dirty from time to time, and the GS is giving me enough opportunity. I got some electrical experience but did not much maintenance on motorcycles so far. I am trying to keep the look of the bike original, I like it's straight lines and the 70s feel. Did the most urgent maintenance last year: replaced original brake lines with steel-braided ones, exchanged rear shocks as old ones were leaking, got new tires, battery.

The bike has been running well so far, but on my last trip in the black forest the rectifier failed (thanks, statorpapers!), and probably also the stator is damaged (but I'll open a thread in tech section for that).
So I am just busy sourcing a new r/r at the moment.
This forum is superawesome, helped me a lot so far!
Glad to be part of this community!
