    Forum stalls and pauses

I'm sure some of you have seen it where it seems like the forum just hangs after you have gone a clicked on something. You're probably wondering if there was something you did. Well, I've seen it a few times myself and I don't live in the forum so I thought I would do some digging. It appears that the forum software is burping and dying once in a while with forum cache errors. This appears to be another possible database or code issue. So I have a support call into vBulletin to see if they can track it down.

I noticed that happening all day yesterday, but I was thinking it might be an attack-bot defence to prevent reloading fast queries.

I noticed the same thing. It was the cache acting up. I now have set a couple of parameters per vBulletin's request so let's see how it goes.

I tried updating the forum and the version of PHP we are running is too old. So I couldn't update things and had to roll the update back. I only have the ability to upgrade to v8.1 and vBulletin needs v8.2. I have a service call in so we'll see if they can update us.

The forum has been running for over 12 hours without any caching errors which is great news. I saw that they had made some tweaks to the caching. Maybe they fixed it!

I appreciate it!!! We're still not done hunting down the lockout problem though, even if it's better. I just updated the database per vBulletin's request so we'll see how that goes...

Another day and more working with vBulletin to get this forum running correctly. We still aren't there. It looks like to me that they are having issues when users are doing searches in the forum. Some of our subforums (channels) are so big that if you type in a common word like "carburetor" it gets back so many results that they just can't handle it. That's what it looks like to me anyway. So the work continues in trying to track this one down.

For me, the site was down all day with some kind of error message.
