I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

If you drink 3 cups of Espresso, snort some Ajax (or Comet) cleanser, and burn a couple or three hundred-dollar bills, it's exactly like cocaine! I remember a skit like that from 'The Secret Policeman's Other Ball' benefit show way back in the early 80s.

That's why I say it's another brick in the wall. It just keeps chipping away at me, and I have to draw the line somewhere. Any 'nice to haves' are going out the window rapidly. I can deal with it, it just sucks to see everything go up, up, up. Norton parts are on the rise like crazy. I got some stuff from US importers who got shipments some time ago, and have in stock at old prices. But 20 to 40% more is hitting, becoming common. My seat was $350, now is $525 1 year later. It's not magic.

I used to get stuff from Andover Norton in the UK (they supply almost everyone stateside, as the original owner bought out all the Norton tooling, drawings, etc when they folded). It was often less expensive to buy from them than the US, if the parts weren't large and heavy. In fact, it was less expensive to have them shipped here than to buy them in the UK (!), because they don't charge us VAT.

Those days are gone. Prices are way higher, and it just stinks, period.

The whole thing stinks in the short term, in order to save my sanity I have to entertain the idea that this little bit of hardship will return dividends once we get our country back to being able to supply itself with what it needs as opposed to forcing the rest of the world to supply it for us

I've read reports about auto parts and auto assembly itself, moving back to the USA. Motorcycle parts for GS bikes? I doubt it.

I'm waiting for a scooter carb from China, the 98 Zuma scooter was missing the choke plunger, the only part I could find didn't fit so I ended up ordering a cheap replacement carb. I'd have loved to find a genuine Yamaha Dellorto carb but ebay only had a greasy ball of cables that was supposed to have a carb with it. The Ad said you will pay no more after the initial purchase and shipping. We shall see.

So then who's stopping you from becoming a GS parts supplier? After all, you're already doing it at a hobby level, right?

That is exactly the way groupthink works, and you are one of many who are WILLINGLY buying into rump's form of groupthink....which is exactly what he is counting on...

Let me give you this bit of basics, from Wiki:

Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome.
