Rode to Mt St Helens with a bunch of other guys during a PNW rally on my 919. The rear tire was bald but black all around. After a couple hundred miles and being stopped by a state police, ( the whole bunch of us) it was found that the rear had about 6” of cord showing with 50 miles to go. Was a bit scary but made it safely home with Charlie G following. Ne ver got a pic of that one.

I haven't seen threads on a tire since I was 16 and broke. I change tires long before they are due....cheap insurance imo.

Derelict: adjective; in a very poor condition as a result of disuse and neglect. My submission:

I'm a little ashamed to say that that hazard picture was taken on 11/10/18, and I didn't really notice for a few months.
I finally DID notice on 2/3/19:

One reason I hadn't noticed is that rear tire only had 6,350 miles on it.
But I did start to notice a lack of control.

My front tire right now is in similar shape, that's one reason I haven't ridden lately.

Derelic, huh? Okay, why not, this pic will be my submission.
