20210617_114457.jpg Well ol' buddy Larr. All I have to say is get on your motorcycle take a little ride and check it out for yourself... You won't be disappointed.

Bears Tooth Pass is actually in Wyoming. Yes, rt 212 does cross the Montana state line going to Red Lodge Montana, so Larry, you aren't totally wrong. But the pass is in Wyoming.

It's a beautiful scene in any state.

            From Wikipedia:
The Beartooth Highway is an All-American Road in the western United States on a section of U.S. Route 212 in Montana and Wyoming between Red Lodge and the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park. It crests at Beartooth Pass in Wyoming at 10,947 feet (3,337 m) above sea level, and was called "the most beautiful drive in America," by late CBS News correspondent Charles Kuralt.[2] Because of heavy snowfall at the top, the pass is usually open for about five months per year, from mid-May to mid-October, weather conditions permitting.

Yep, definitely Wyoming. Here is a shot taken from about the same spot back in 2012. Same ragged sign.

Don, in fact was the reason for me to check out Wyoming and that part of the country. I remember him talking about the Chief Joseph highway, and thought what a great ride destination. I spent three days based out of Cody Wyoming. When I go back, I'll bring a little touch up paint and touch up the sign.

Well, that explains why my teacher flunked me in geography class. I just thought she was being mean to me.

                  edit:
I've actually crossed that same stretch of highway but it was back in the early 80's. Yes, I should go ride it again sometime.

                    June 4th 2019
                    My "Ride-RT-Home-From-SanDiego" trip.

For a day and a half I could see snow capped mountain peaks in the distance, and I wondered how my US50 route would go around them.
Every couple hours they appeared to be closer and bigger, and taking a larger portion of my view ahead.
THen I started noticing elevation signs, 4 thousand, and later 5thousand, and later 6 thousand, and 7 , and 8 thousasand, and is getting colder,.
A little after 9 thousand I noticed a little snow in some places, by 10 thousand was lot more snow, then mostly all snow, and colder, then 11 thousand....

Monarch Pass, Contenential Divide, US50, Colorado, 11300 ft

On way down I had a skiier follow along for a couple minutes. ANd later I saw a bull moose on side of road.
                    Memerable occassion.

In looking for a pic, I recalled this Monarch Pass, and I recalled had pic that included a sign, but I was thinking it was THE sign. But apparently not.

This is the nearest thing I've got to a pass, unless I ride non-stop 9 hours to catch a ferry to the South Island out of Wellington City (about 4 hours), then ride another 4 hours to finally reach Lewis Pass. The Lewis is the northern-most of the proper alpine passes across New Zealand's Southern Alps (Lord of the Rings scenery and all that sh*t).

The photo is taken recently at a lookout near the summit of the Scenic Drive, Auckland, which runs through the Waitakere Ranges (hills really), between the city which is on the east coast and the beaches of the west coast. The coasts are in places are only a couple of miles apart. Bump in the distant horizon is a volcanic cone/island (Rangitoto) which is relatively 'fresh', geologically speaking, having stopped erupting little over 800 years ago.

Can’t find anything around my parts referred to as a pass. But may be this will pass.

Rob, the bike is facing west, if the bike were turned around, to point east, it'd look correct.
