Due to an extremely hot dry summer with smoke and fires all around us I didn't get out much all summer. We did however just get back from some travel east of us in the prairies for a change from the mountains around us.

I'm kind of surprised nobody mentioned the eclipse today that was visible from the Pacific Northwest, down to The Gulf Of Mexico. Well, as it turns out Albuquerque has the Ballon Fiesta going at the same time as the eclipse. Quite a unique opportunity for some once in a lifetime photos.
I left the house at 3am to find the perfect spot. Once I found the right spot I set up the tripod and attached the camera. Now it's just a matter of waiting for a balloon to float in front of the eclipsed sun. I checked all the weather reports for wind direction, cloud cover, calculated the angle of the sun to be at 33.2°. Perfect weather, great spot, thermos of coffee, balloons flying.
At precisely 10:36am it happened. A balloon flew right between me and the eclipsed sun. I only had time for one pic. Clik! Got it!!!!!!!
Damn lens cap! It was an amazing scene though.Roger

I suppose I should add that my last post was meant to be somewhat satirical. I did get up early and head out on the GS (not 3am early more like 8:30 am) with a camera intending to catch some balloon pics. Also a lens from a welding hood to attempt a shot at the eclipse. I hoped to get some interesting stuff to share, but no luck. The balloons had all landed by the time the eclipse happened. my ride was a bit cooler than I'd planned for and I got chilled, then stopped for coffee and to shoot the breeze with some other folks. It was near impossible to capture any image through that dark lens, all I got was a reflection, lol. Maybe next time I'll have better luck. Only 375 years, give or take, to wait for those two events (Balloon Fiesta and annular eclipse) to occur on the same day.Roger
