Agreed. That is a sweet bike. Even though I always did well selling what I had, if money were not an issue (though I suppose true of most of us here), I would have kept every last one of them

Latest progress report

The bike had a few issues with the starter clutch slipping. It use the same system as our GS bikes do...( see the Yamaha 73 TX 750 parts fiche under STARTER MOTOR UNIT ).. . I ordered gaskets off Ebay and tore into her to do the repairs in anticipation of the gasket arriving. I found that all 3 bolts on the back were loose and one of the springs and the cap were TOTALLY GONE. Not laying in the cover, not stuck to a rotor magnet..notta anywhere. I had a spare GS clutch so it took the spring and cap out of that and into the Yammy they went. Perfect fit and now no slippage. Just need the gasket and button it up to get her fired off. I reassembled with some red loctite so I dont expect anymore loose bolts.

Dale...soon as shes idling on her own that video will be forth coming. I dont have far to go after the gaskets arrive. At least i HOPE thats the worst of any problems

Chuck,
You can cut a stator cover gasket from gasket paper in about 10 minutes. Use a hole punch for the holes.

Ed...not this one!!! Check out the LEFT SIDE COVER fiche..its a dual seal gasket. The stator goes on and then the outer cover..both use the same gasket.

Gaskets ( 2 of them ) arrived. One will go in the bike and the other will be a master for copys later down the road if needed. Gonna go over Thursday AM and button it back up and see if I can get some smoke and noise.

Well.....The Harvest Classic is over and she ran the trip well. Time now for the freshining up of the cylinder and head paint, some new head and valve cover gaskets, basic fix up all the little things that need attention. I have put 1,200 miles on her since the rescue.

Frank Z came by and we set the engine up on the bench. Has some damaged valve stem issues and needs the valve seat refreshed. Got those issues addressed and the new stem seals in and move on to the lowere end..clean pickup screen and degrease the bottom of the engine and frame. Pics to come soon.

Took the camera today and snapped some pics of the engine progress. Found some problems that will need addressed though. One of the rocker arms was setting off center on the intake valve and hammered that valve stem pretty nastily. The adjuster was toast too. The other intake valve showed signs of being hammered on quite a bit too. Let these pictures be a lesson that you gotta keep the valves adjusted!! It rattled like crazy when we first got it started and some adjustment did quiet it down considerably, but till i cracked the cover off I didnt know how badly things were inside. Bothe exhaust valves look like they are about as clean as one would expect for only 11,oo miles on an engine. Got the head degreased and scrubbed up a bit. Valve seats appear very good but I will be borrowing my buddy Randys cutters and refreshing them ever so slightly. Here the pics of the project as it stands now..
