A rough 82 ELR with 26k miles that sold at auction early this year went for $16,600. It needed a complete restoration. You have to remember Kaw made the "Super Bike Replica" in 83 & 84 in far greater numbers than the 82 ELR. 83/84 bring $8K-$14K depending on miles and condition. The 82 has the signed Lawson championship sticker on the tank while the 83/84 says "Super Bike Replica" with no signature from the man. Man Wester Cooley & Steve Murdoch, you are both correct. Mr. Lawson is not passing any DB checks and he certainly howls like no other motorcycle I have ever ridden. When I first started it I had not checked the baffle... no packing!!! Just out of curiosity, but if it worth that much..and obviously like factory new..why would anyone put ANYTHING OF ANY SORT on the tank or tail sections paint? I would be afraid of so much as 1 little abrasion or dulling of the paint myself.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Hey thanks Chuck, I can tell you are really looking out for me! I rode the bike for 30 miles since I have had it. I put the tank bag on it for a 10 mile ride near my home. The bag is padded and I have ran it for years on all my bikes with no issues. I believe the tank is arguably more protected with the bag coverage from anything dropping on top than if it were bare and exposed. The tail pack does not touch the tail paint anywhere, only the seat bar. Hey eddie21 thanks for the tip on kz1000r.com. I have been on the site quite a bit but have not registered the bike yet. My bike is not in the registry yet so I will be sure to do that. As far as the ride on my ELR it is nice and firm but very compliant and tolerable. I like a firmer ride on my bikes & they are generally set up on the firmer side. I would like to say that the HYPE surrounding the Lawson is all true and warranted. In 1982 it was truly a factory race bike right off the show room floor available to average mortals. Pretty amazing really that it came jetted and with that pipe. Could never happen in todays world.Congratulations on finding such an awesome example! The 82 is the model that inspired me to purchase the KZ1100R. Yours is so original, I wonder what you think of the stock shocks on the bike. Not being very forward thinking I threw the stockers in the garbage almost immediately, man they were tough riding!
There is the kz1000r.com forum where guys are attempting to record the vin numbers and keep a record of the R models. It'd be nice to have your bike registered there if it isn't already.
I'd like to pester you about how much you paid for it as well... but I'm too much a gentleman.

Dont get me wrong i have been at a collecting point in my life, i had a rare low mileage Mustang, that i babied, i got to the point, i went, this is Frickin dumb. these things are made to drive, not sit and rot, and be wiped down with a diaper. So i sold it and bought a stang i could beat on and have fun with.
My life has been so much better without it, i have gotten back into bikes recently, and promised myself everything i owned i would ride the snot out of, so i have kept myself away from anything worth $$$

Yeah you are right and that is part of the reason I am conflicted because I do enjoy riding it so I truly get what you are saying. Part of me really agrees with that point of view. But honestly, I do have a few other comparable bikes to ride in the shop so I am not missing out on riding at all. If I want to rape the crap out of something I have a 750 two-stroke that satisfies that need.
But believe me, I get what you are saying. Nothing quite like twisting the throttle on a factory, mean, green, vintage super bike.
