Tore it apart and blew out the carbon, looked at the bearing holes, checked the brushes and polished the armature.
All looks good and spins good. Reinstalled it and still nothing but sparks and a hum.
I'm using a battery charger for the tests and it acts like it's either shorting or the tyranny is locked up. It dims the lights in the garage.
I also saw a thread about the grounding tabs on the brush plate and this one shows signs of arcing, hence my question on continuity.
The tyranny and engine turn over pushing it in gear but the clutch is somewhat locked.
I still have it out and tonight I'll try to improve the brush plate ground, that may be one of its weaknesses, I saw directions on bolting a ground strap, but I'll buy a new one if it fails.
I don't have access to a load tester but that would narrow it down much.
