        Very smart looking.
I resist getting on modern bikes, because it just makes me want one.

Oh yeah, you definitely need to attend the brown county rally next year. Lots of us regulars would like the chance to put a face to the name.

Oh wait a minute. Make that 2025 as I won't be in attendance for the 2024 rally.

Congrats! That bike looks very well cared for, and tastefully farkled. I think you got a pretty good price, too.

And yeah, you should get to the Brown County rally soon. Some years, it's been in danger of looking more like a Triumph rally, so you might as well jump in. They're a popular choice with this crowd.

After riding Larry's Tiger, I went straight home and opened up a savings account labeled "Triumph Fund". I knew that I wanted a modern bike with ABS/TC, etc. but I hadn't really found anything that pushed my buttons until then.

It was pretty difficult to find a 2015+ XR model like yours; almost all the examples I found for sale were the more dual-sporty XC model with the 21" front and spoked wheels. I wanted a road bike for sporty touring; for dual-sporting I have a KLR650.

To make a long story short, I ended up veering off the intended target a tiny bit and buying a 2015 Yamaha FJ-09. It has an 850cc triple with a fair bit more power and a very different sound and feel from the cross-plan crankshaft. Much less refined than the Triumph, especially the stock suspension, and the electronics are pretty basic. Anyway, it works for me and I think I'm happier with the Yamaha's increased hooligan factor. Plus, I don't really like windshields, and the FJ-09 actually works great without the windshield, and doesn't look like something's missing.

The bike is currently wearing Michelin Anakee Adventure tires with quite a bit of life left in them. Little bit of research shows them as a 80/20 tire that cost as much for 1 as the pair of Shiko 705s I’ve been running on my GS for a while. I’ll have to see how these tires perform on my preferred roads. I do plan to acclimate myself on the road for a while before purposely throwing my new bike into the dirt. And then small steps in progressive looser packed trails.

My brain in a bit of a whirlwind, I just watched a mind numbing video on Valve adjustment for the tiger.

                            Bob,
Yes, I actually joined it 2 years ago when I first stated looking at Triumphs. I really like that forum. It's very active and international. My moniker there is RichRod. We may have discussed this before or maybe I just happed to come across Bob T from Knoxville over there.

That video would have talked me out of it immediately. Under bucket shims are probably the most bullet proof valve train, but for me as rare as valve train problems are with over bucket shims and screw adjusters, for me not worth the extra aggravation. Rich, looking back, I'd bet you'd think well worth the extra aggravation, and that'd be completely understandable. Good luck tomorrow, Hoping rain stays east of you.
