Adjustment for heim joints in the shift pedal linkage? 1983 gs1100e

I replaced a heim joint on my 83 1100e. The one that connects to shaft coming out of trans. Is there a specific way to adjust these? How much slack should be in the linkage after adjustment?

All that does is adjust the height of the lever. Adjust to where you want it to be for your toe. It does nothing for any slack in your linkage.

Ok thats good to know. Is the clocking of the heim joint onto the splines of the shaft also just for pedal height adjustment, or does the joint have to attach to the shaft splines in specific position?

Think of the splines as the course adjustment, and the hiem joint as the fine adjustment. Pretty sure they are not keyed or anything.
On mine, the ear on the shift shaft, and the ear on the lever, point almost straight down. Maybe slightly rearward.

All you need to worry about as far as the linkage is concerned is that it doesn't hit anything when gear shifting. Otherwise you can clock it anywhere on the spline you want as long as you can get the bolt into it.
