Carb Problem
Got my carbs off and noticed my third carb is stickin in the back where the carb meets the air box. It goes up just fine but every now and then sticks a tad going back down, it will go down even when sticking it just hesitates. When i tear the carb apart some carb cleaner should take care of this correct?Tags: None -
You will need to fully disassemble, dip, and reassemble each carb for at least 24 hours EACH. Get yourself a can of Berryman's Carb cleaner from the auto parts store and let them soak. Follow the procedures found on Basscliff's site THOROUGHLYCowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

Alright sounds good. Im in no hurry. Got some carb cleaner but a lot of the screws on top are stripped. Used wd40 and let it soak in for 24 hours then tried and they just dont want to go. Any tricks of the trade other then the norm to get them off?Comment

Get an impact driver from Harbor Frieght or somewhere. They work wonders on the old screws. I was amazed at the stripped out screws the thing could loosen.

I bought this one and works pretty good except the rubber slips off when hammering violently.

Remember that WD-40 is NOT a lubricant just a water dispersant. Might want to get some PB BlasterCowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

Hi,
The "magic" brew for stuck bolts is a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone.
The Carb Cleanup Series is the "bible" for rebuilding these carbs on the GS bikes. I also keep a copy on my little website.

I do have one question. my primary jets are clean but the secondary jets are terrible and the gaskets are shot. Do I need a rebuild kit for those gaskets and what do the secondary jets do?Comment

Are you talking about the pilot, main, or needle jet? Soak all three in the dip while the carb body is in there too. Then use a small piece of wire to run through them.
You can get new bowl gaskets from Z1 and you'll want new orings from www.cycleorings.comCowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

Ive always heard it called the secondary jet. Its the smaller of the two. Also what should you use to dip it in?Comment

Hi,
The usual carb dip is a product called Berryman Chem Dip. If it's not available in your area, a similar product can be used. Yamaha also makes a carburetor dip.
Have you read through the Carb Cleanup Series? It should explain everything.
Get new float bowl gaskets from any OEM dealer. Get the O-ring kit from http://cycleorings.com. Follow the instructions. There are LOTS of pictures in the Carb Cleanup Series.
