1982 gs850 cylinder cam cover torque

Alright, I decided having a local shop weld it.

Where can I get the gaskets from? What do I all need?

How do I put it back on? Should I put goop between engine portion and gasket then gasket to valve cover.

I am not new to engines. I just prefer to get this done once and stop this stupid oil leak..

I believe what is happened is with the crack it is not applying enough pressure to outside of cover causing it to leak.

For valve cover gaskets, try eBay, Z1, PArtShark, etc. A valve cover gasket should not be hard to find.

You don't need any "goop" on that gasket. Maybe a tiny bit of grease to help keep it in place. If your breather cap gasket is mangled, you'll need one of those.

The factory manual says between 6 and 8.5 foot pounds.
Don't DARE go over 7 ! (84 inch pounds.)

These allen head screws are 40mm long. Longer than the factory ones for a reason.

I was going to weld it but the people welding did not think it would work. I will be ordering a new part and new gasket. I have so much goop to try and stop the oil leak but its still leaking....but being this is south dakota it will start cooling down in a little over a month so not much I can do.

Hi,

When you reassemble, do not use any "goop" on the gasket. You don't want globs of stuff in your engine oil to clog passages. If using the stock paper gasket, you can put a thin coating of grease on it or spray it with WD-40 before assembly. Otherwise, all surfaces have to be clean. You can use a little bit of RTV or Gaska-Cinsh on the curved part of the half-moons (cam plugs). I use Real Gaskets on my valve cover and breather. Those go on with absolutely nothing, everything has to be clean.
