I was going to weld it but the people welding did not think it would work. I will be ordering a new part and new gasket. I have so much goop to try and stop the oil leak but its still leaking....but being this is south dakota it will start cooling down in a little over a month so not much I can do.Comment

Hi,
When you reassemble, do not use any "goop" on the gasket. You don't want globs of stuff in your engine oil to clog passages. If using the stock paper gasket, you can put a thin coating of grease on it or spray it with WD-40 before assembly. Otherwise, all surfaces have to be clean. You can use a little bit of RTV or Gaska-Cinsh on the curved part of the half-moons (cam plugs). I use Real Gaskets on my valve cover and breather. Those go on with absolutely nothing, everything has to be clean.
Thank you for your indulgence,
