It's not points.. appears to be a stock electronic ignition with electronic advance in the ignitor from an 82...

I think your 850 will be mechanical advance... Take your side cover off & you should be able to see the difference. It's possible that you might be able to transfer the whole lot (incl the mechanical advance unit) over the the 1100.... I don't know but I suspect the advance curve of those two 8v engines are set very similar at the factory.1980 GS1000G - Sold
