I feel like such an idiot asking how you screw in a bolt haha. I've been working on mechanical stuff for years.
    in this video he posted...
a 12" crescent wrench would hold the rotor very good.
    also,
i believe the 83 850 is an electronic advance, not mechanical.
your 81 650 is a mechanical advancer to my knowledge.
if you used a lot of force on your advancer it is possible to twist the ears off that engage in the 19mm hex that you put your wrench on.
remove 12mm bolt in the middle and you will see if you damaged it.

I take it I broke the advancer? Is the 19mm part suppose to come off? Also I have a 79 850, would the advancer on that be compatible?

look at and compare the 79 advancer to the 650.
          you may be in luck.

          added
the ears are made to the advancer and it engages into the 19mm nut.
never rotate/hold the engine with the plugs in it using the 19mm or this can happen.
the ears just spin off the advancer when abused...very fragileee!

Wow- guess I have to be more careful turning crank during valve fun!
I got two spare advancers off 650's, so if your 750 looks different, have no fear and PM me.
