cush drive bushings

Has anyone successfully removed the bushings (cush drive?) from the rear wheel without destroying them? Were you able to re-use them? I'm thinking of powdercoating my wheels, but I doubt the rubber will hold up to the 400 degree temps.

Those things degenerate over time. If you removed twenty or thirty year-old rubber dampers, replace them with new. I just did this for my 1150. Cost me all of $50.

I used a drift to force out the nipple side
worked like a charm of rme
30 yr old bushings went back in used a bit of lube on the nipple

Not sure what you mean by nipple side. Mines a shafty if there's a difference. They're pressed into a blind hole, so I guess I'd have to use some sort of puller.

Think I'll try this method. The bushings look similar. I'll check condition after removal.

Just lever them out... lift the edge & spray some silicon around there first. Yes they can be re-used but new will feel better....

Yep they get hard as a rock after 20 or so years. So you end up with no more cush in your drive
