is there a way to rubber engine mount a GS850L?

    Hi,
Is there any tutorials or threads on putting rubber mounts on a GS850L or similar? Trying to get the high pitch vibration down to a minimum.

    Thanks

    No rubber mounts are necessary.

Adjust the valves, clean and sync the carbs.

Yeah, it's not quite as smooth as my Wing, but I have no problem at all on a multi-day ride.

Now, if you have recently moved from a V-twin bike, the vibes will feel different,
but there is certainly nothing worth re-engineering the engine mounts.

A well tuned 850 is as smooth as any motorcycle ever made, except maybe a K75.

I adjusted the valves and synced the carbs but, the high pitch buzz is annoying on long rides, even with 12 o.z.+ weights on each side of the handle bars. Honestly over 55 mph the mirrors (after market) are useless. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive...

No, there's something wrong with your engine. Motor mounts loose? Footpegs loose? Crankshaft twisted? Something like that.

Can an after market exhaust cause a resonance in the bike? I'll check the mounts.

This subject again. My friend you need to have someone other than yourself take a look at the bike. This isn't a XS650 yammy, the GS850 is a very smooth runner when tuned correctly. Have owned several 850 of various years, both G and L models and never have had even a bit of vibration. If your bike is that bad you need to forget about rubber mounts and try and figure out the issue, or possibly ride a bicycle

Not sure, but loose pipes can contribute to it.

I thought maybe putting some rubber on the mounts would help, instead of paying $100+ an hour for a mechanic.

                    Paying a mechanic? BLASPHEMY!

I think what the GSR Hive Mind means is to ask a fellow GS rider with a bit more experience to take your bike for a spin and see whether it really does vibrate more than expected.

Perhaps if you're less coy about your approximate location, someone will appear. If you're anywhere near Indianapolis, for example, I'd be happy to assist.

I don't get it, why would you pay yourself for working on your bike?

I test rode some new 2015 Yamaha bikes a few weeks back and my shagged-out 1980 GS850GL had less vibration than all of them except the FZ6R. I have stock mirrors and they're clear at any speed.

The other thing that's worth mentioning is the "death grip". Many riders squeeze the grips way too hard, and no matter what they ride, they blame the machine for their tingling, aching paws.

The proper grip, of course, is as loose as possible and still guide the bike. Sometimes it helps to install stickier grips, fatter grips, grip tape, etc. -- for example, if the throttle grip is slippery, you'll wear yourself out trying to maintain control.

Look deep within yourself (more specifically your forearms). Find the answer that you know to be true...

If you happen to be about 100 miles east of Indy, I would be willing to offer my assistance.
