It seems to be seated on the splines adequately. The sprocket nut looks to be original to this bike. Should I try replacing the sprocket nut as well?Comment

the nut is just plain on your bike? mine has a metal insert that seems to be there to resist turning
oddly threads and shaft tip look the same. i wonder if you could get the later type nut in correct size

It’s nothing noteworthy. The threaded portion looks to be about 6mm of thread and the other portion is recessed to clamp onto the sprocket. it doesn’t look like it changed. I just ordered a new replacement as well as a new washer to see if that’ll help things. I doubt it but it’s worth a shot.the nut is just plain on your bike? mine has a metal insert that seems to be there to resist turning
