Does anyone know for sure what material the kick start lever/arm is made from? It appears to be cast steel, I'm sure it's not aluminum based on weight and magnetism. Asking for purposes of welding.

Never really analyzed it, and I don't own a bike with one, but I would presume it is steel, possibly cast.

The spark test is a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that. I think the only options would be forged steel, cast steel or cast iron but the other 2 don’t really make sense in the context of this application.1978 GS750E (barn find and current project)

I'm pretty sure these are cast steel with a chrome coating. The markings I've seen don't seem to indicate forging.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
