Original seat cover replicas

For all you GS1000 owners, thanks to this thread, I've located two sources for exact replica seat covers.

This place http://stores.ebay.com/dis-covers offers a replica of the 1978 GS1000C/E seat cover (five rows of large "scales"):







The place K.K. is dealing with offers an exact replacement for the '79-'80 1000E and the '80-'81 1000G with eight rows of smaller "scales":



Please note a couple facts on GS1000 seat covers:

1. The 1000C, 1000E, and 1000G all have the same foam shape, but the bumpers under the pans are different.

2. The 1000G seats didn't have "SUZUKI" stenciled on the back. I'm sure that you can get one from pit replica without the stenciling if you asked. I personally think it's cool, myself.



Kinda disappointed that I can't send him one of my covers and get a free one. Oh well, it's nice knowing I can get one if needed.

Please note a couple facts on GS1000 seat covers:

The GS1000(C) and GS1000E(C) are of differing heights at the rear of the seat. the grab bar is higher on the "E" seat and the side of the seat cover has more material on the "E" than on the "C". how could the foam be the same?

Now, just to throw a curve ball in the mix here, what about the foam padding, is there anyone who does these, or are we at the mercy of trying to find a good seat from the pool of ever disapearing good ones.
I am going to buy a cover from pit replicas or that other crowd on ebay, but my original foam has been hacked away and reshaped.....long story.
So where do I stand?

About the seats being a bit different but same foam, I think that if the pan steps up it would be made up in that, not more foam.

Anyways I got an aftermarket style one with foam and cover from Saddleman and they seemed to have listings for most GS bikes for replica covers, but not sure how accurate they are on those. Could always ask them for high res pictures or something. The one I got is great quality and cant wait to ride on it, oh an AMERICAN made... that is a hard thing to find these days.

That is an excellent question. Since mine is pristine, it is not really an issue to me. I had some spare time this evening and thought I would Google around. At first inspection (motorcycle seat foam) I got lots of hits. But none of the links I inspected were suitable AFAIAC.
If you could provide an answer to the forum and post it in this thread, I am certain it would be greatly appreciated.
Counterpoint: From what I have read, finding a quality seat pan is the most difficult part. I sounds like you have one. Locate this source for foam (try eBay?) and you will be set, plus you will be able to shape the foam yourself, and it would be new, not 27 years old, which would be a good thing.

I think Sargent Covers sells their Super Cell foam separately if needed. This is probably better quality than the original material, esp. if the seat is a high mileage one. If going this route, one could also incorporate gel inserts etc. (available at bike shows, probably sources online as well) at strategic areas, to increase comfort even more, while maintaining the stock shape. The SC foam will have to be shaped to approximate the stock height/width & profile, so it helps if one has an original foam pad to work with....probably best to take a few inches off the top, and replace that with the new foam.

EDIT: Any word from Pit Replica re. the double stitching request?

I thought the Super Cell is similar to the gel foam, highly concentrated that you want only for a small volume/area. I could be wrong.
All the American manufacturers most certainly have sources for "regular" seat foam. But selling it in bulk would reduce their volumes, so I doubt you can find it from them for a reasonable price. Again, I could be wrong.

I did not ask Pit Replica for double stitching, please read the email I sent them. It was copied verbatim. Paraphrasing, I told them that that seam was the primary failure on this seat and we would appreciate it if they could find a solution. To tell them how to do it would be like trying to tell Peyton Manning how to find his favorite receiver. All I care about is the result, let them find the path.
And no, I have not heard from them at all, but expect it will still be a couple of weeks.

With the Super Cell foam they recommend shaving off 2 inches of the stock seat foam, and replacing it with it....supposedly much more supportive.

My Corbin has a similar layer; high density to supplement the standard seat foam, not replace it. Flyboy was seeking replacement seat foam. Perhaps my search was not worded correctly?

I found two places that will probably carry replacement foam if you have a good pan but need to replace the seat foam itself. Please note, these are links to their web sites, but you will have to do the legwork to dig into their sites, call them, whatever. But they both seem to carry all types of foam, so, with persistence, you should be able to find what you need.
