I don't remember what value the capacitors have, but I wired about 8 of them in parallel. Your bike will run without them, but since the current output of the stator varies with RPMs, you get a lot of weird behavior. You can by a pro solution, look for "motorcycle battery eliminator" on google.

As for frenching the tail light. It is mounted to a bar I welded to the frame, so I could put it wherever I wanted.

I has come to my attention that my pics are gone from my old threads. My photobucket account was probably deleted due to no activity.

Here is a blog I wrote chronicalling the whole thing:

    http://www.build****dude.com/2011/07...s750-cafe.html

*edit: Hah, my blog's URL has a dirty word in it! Anyway, go here:

    http://www.buildsh*tdude.com/2011/07...s750-cafe.html

And replace the "*" with an "i"

Guess I should have called my blog buildpoopdude

well done! bike and blog are great!

looks like you really like to paint. I dont think I have ever seen a bike be painted so many times.

I have done some research on this.
You will need a voltage rating of around 25v or higher and a capacitance of around 10,000uF or higher. You can achieve this by wiring some smaller capacitors in parallel or by getting a big capacitor.

That sounds about right. I remember coming up with needing 6, and I think I went with 8. Finding smaller capacitors was a lot easier than a big one (for a reasonable amount of money). I think I paid $15 shipped for 25 of them.

Paint is cheap, at least cheaper than a new bike. I've often thought about buying another tank and tail piece so that I could swap between looks at will. But that would probably be going down a bad road (visions of dozens of tanks hanging from the rafters in my garage).

Hi, I was actually considering to use the rear cowl and tail light assy for my cafe racer. Would you consider building it for me? PM me if youre interested!

                beergood,

I want to buy the clubman bars you have off ebay...what size should I buy or what specs for them to fit the factroy mounts and controls?

                thanks

I don't remember the width of the bars, I bought them so long ago. The diameter is the standard 7/8" (I think). I will try to remember to measure them the next time I am out in the garage.

As for making you a seat, the pan was very easy to fabricate. Although I can understand it being difficult if you don't have access to a mig welder or angle grinder. I would be willing to help you through the process. As for the leather and foam portion, my mother (who has a lot of upholstery experience) made those for me. And I can't imagine her agreeing to make another one. Sorry.

Nice build Beergood! I read all your post and your blog and I am inspired to build my own cafe racer with my 77' 750. I hope you don't mind if a borrow a few ideas from your build...

                            I like it. Nicely done.

It could use rearsets, in my opinion.

I would love to have rearsets. Unfortunately I haven't been able to budget for them yet. There is no way I am shelling out $300 for a pair of Raask. I occasionally check for a pair of gsxr that I can retrofit, but I never seem to find them for the right price. What can I say, I'm cheap.

With those beautiful knee dents, rearsets would be foolish. Unless you are built like a locust.
