good wax polish and a quick buff up every now and again and you dont need to clear coat it.

I agree with Agemax...I wouldn't clear coat it. Especially something with that much potential to get gas on it.

Don't put any permanent coating over it in an attempt to preserve a permanent shine. Deckhands have been attempting that for many years in an effort to avoid polishing brass. I have seen all forms of concoctions which just destroyed the look and ultimately had to be removed.

I used the same PPG clear I sprayed the bike with. Gas doesn't eat it up any worse than the paint on your tank. Definitely not rattle can.

Until you get the opportunity to spray it, a little polish will generally keep it shiny.

See picture attached (I just shot it), I cleared it in July 2011. Looks about the same as it did when first sprayed.
