Engine side cover bolts ?

I'm currently polishing the engine cases on my machine. It's a 1981 GS750. It originally came with Philips-head screws, I believe the 1982 came with flanged hex-head bolts. This is what I prefer, only I would like them in stainless steel. Does anybody have a line on ss hex-head kits ? I realize there are allen-head kits available , but opt for the flanged hex. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Skyhawk.

Dome headed stainless steel flange bolts like he whats will be difficult if not impossible to find. Perhaps you could get the later model factory bolts in an Ebay parts lot deal and have them chromed?

Most people are not paying attention to the question...

The fasteners the OP describes are not available. You can get mini head flange bolts that are zinc plated, but not in stainless steel.

These are the case bolts used on 1982+ models -- a 6mm bolt, for example, would use an 8mm wrench instead of the more usual 10mm.

An example -- from what I've found, they only seem to be made by a company called The Hillman Group:


EDIT: I think the flanges on these may be too big to work on many GS case bolts. See other source below.

All the M6 sizes needed for GS case bolts appear to be available:

Many Ace Hardware stores stock Hillman assortments and will have these, or can get them. Again, they're not stainless, and stainless does not seem to be available anywhere. Also, the flange appears to be larger than the original Suzuki bolts -- you'd need to get a couple of examples and experiment to make sure these will work.

You could also, of course, order new bolts from Suzuki, or have your old ones cleaned and re-plated.

In my experience, new bolts from Suzuki can vary quite a bit cosmetically (you might get a gray or black bolt instead of zinc plated), so replating might be your best option if this is important to you.

Most of us don't give a hoot about originality, so we install stainless steel socket head screws, which look good, work great (just remember the antiseize), and are easily available.

With the smaller flange that the stock bolts have to clear the wells that they fit into, you will pretty much have to get some of these plated...

Thanks, guys... I found that www.pro-bolt has conventional design flanged-hex size in ss. , but are a little more money than I wanted to spend. They are real nice though, with a concave "dimple" on the head. Custom-fasteners did have the smaller hex-head flange, "per original" in chrome, which I may consider, at a more reasonable price, depending on shipping cost from the U.K. thanks,... Skyhawk.

P.S. ... investigating further... as someone had mentioned, I realized that the smaller 8mm head (stock) allows for socket clearance in the recesses in the covers, whereas the 10mm hex-head doesn't. So that narrows the choices for sure! Skyhawk.

I bought a set a few years ago and have managed to lose the one size that noone seems to carry, 6mmX1X95mm. I can find 90mm or 100mm, but the only 95mm long ones I've found are on ebay, and I would need to get 25 of them. Can't seem to find just one.
