1982 Gs650E Runaway Throttle at Idle

Alright, ive been over this motor with a fine toothed comb. I cant find anywhere that air would be getting in so im at a loss.

I can get it to idle just fine, but the moment I blip the throttle, it runs away and redlines and I have to hit the kill switch.

But when it happens when im riding, I can stuff my hand in the no-no square and fiddle with the idle speed screw and it'll drop down.

Any ideas short of "*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ can it" will be considered.

    Video of the problem.

    Disconnect throttle cable at carbs
test by actuating throttle at carb thus removing cable etc. from being a factor.

Yup. Did that already. Cable snag has been ruled out.

Ah yes, ive read through your list many times. The only things on there that I could see being the culprit would be the pod air filters, but im using good K&Ns that I modified for clearance for air passage. Unfortunately this bike was in very very bad disrepair when I resurrected it and the airbox was little more than paint and wishful thinking holding the rust together and the same went for the exhaust. But the pipes I made for it (if my math was correct when making the baffles) should have the same backpressure as the stock exhaust.

Admittedly though, the carbs are still using stock jets.

The bike won't run well with pods and the stock jetting. It will run hot, among other things.

Yeah things are... rough.. to say the least. Ive got a set of 115s coming for it along with proper mixture screws. I machined the ones im currently using on the mini lathe and they're damn close, but just not quite what it wants.

Follow up question: Since I was unable to use the stock airbox, what alternatives would you recommend over pods?

Maybe get air correction jets from Zed?

Pardon my ignorance, but im unfamiliar with air correction jets.

                        Edit: Found it

Update: After a little research, i took a crack at making a set myself from some 3D Printer tips and it worked beautifully.

Totally blown away that I was missing out on THAT much power!
