    1980 gs850g carb issues

My carbs are off and in the hands of a mechanic. Apparently I need two carb bodies, one has a broken float stanchion, and another has the steel mixture screw stuck way down in the seat, it's not budging (CV carbs). I did a quick search on e-bay...no luck. Is there another set I could search for from other years or makes, I did see a set of gs750 CV's 1981 vintage. Will a set of old mikuni 28's work from a KZ (I have those on hand) or are 28s to big for the stock 850?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Hi,

The 1980 and up GS850 uses Mikuni BS32SS carbs. Lots of other GS bikes used those carbs too, with different jetting. If you can find another set from another bike, just clean them up, change the jetting, and you'll be good to go.

The other carbs probably won't work because of the intake port size on the head.

    Thank you for your indulgence,

Any of the GS bikes with displacements from 550 to 850, and built from 1980 and up
(with the exception of the '83 and newer 550s) use the same basic carb, Mikuni BS32.

          Oops. Sorry!

          I meant Mikuni BS32SS carbs, NOT BS34SS.

The 34's were used on the bigger bikes.

          I edited my post above.

Get those carbs back from the mechanic and either do it yourself or send them to me.

According to chef1366 the GS650's carb 2 and 3 are different and will not interchange with the others. Isn't that right chef??

                Hi,

Carb #2 is where the vacuum is drawn for the petcock. #3 has no sync adjustments. The other carbs must be balanced to #3.

Actually ALL of them are unique.

#1 has vent, fuel and throttle shaft connections, all on the right.
#2 has vent on the left, fuel and throttle on both sides and a vacuum port for the petcock.
#3 has vent on the right, fuel and throttle shaft connections on both sides and the pulley for the throttle cable.
#4 has vent, fuel and throttle shaft connections, all on the left.

You can swap them with one from a similar position in another rack of carbs, but you can not move them around within the same rack.

                    The #2 & #3 from the 550s and 650s have different spacing than the 750s and 850s.
