I know on my 82 GS650g (CV carbs), Clock-wise is lean, and counter is rich.

I start at 2 or 2 1/2 turns out from bottom.
Damn things are touchy too, i cranked them a tad too rich last week and nearly fouled out my plugs.

 CV out is richening.
 Note sure what carbs
after repacking and putting new ends on my mufflers I fing the plugs are sooting up so I thought I would lean the mixture up by adjusting the screws on top of the carbs that I think are the air pitot screws.
Am I on the right track or have I lost it.

Nope that would be the one. If you're sooting up the plugs the carbs were jetted already for the leaner pipes of you cut off too much air flow.Originally posted by Craig54 View Post81 gs 1000g

I'd get in the carbs and see what's in there.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

 Pilot screw

My old megahones had nothing inside and the end caps had rusted away so I got some aluminium tube drilled some holes in it and wrapped some fiberglass wrap around it and stuck it in the empty megaphone , I the got some aluminium and cut it in to fit the the ends and drilled some holes in it, still pretty loud though,Originally posted by tkent02 View PostWhat exactly did you repack?
so now I guess to air flow is restricted and my plugs are sooting up.
I thought I could adjust the air srew on top of the carns to lean the mixture out a bit.

that'll sort out the bottom end but what about the mid and top end?... likes been mentioned, open up the carbs and see what jetting / settings are inside. chances are needle and main had been changed for the less restrictive pipe and this will need changing back towards where it was originally
