leaking gas into air filter

So i went for a ride today. Get back put bike in the garage and go in the house. Come back out later and find a puddle of ??? under the bike. Turns out its oil. To far back to be coming from the engine. Got to looking and the bottom of the shaft and the voltage regulator (Attached to bottom of air filter housing) are wet with oil. I open the air filter and sure enough there is gas in there. It is on the bottom of the filter. No clue how gas is getting in there. I ran the bike without the filter and couldn't see any gas coming in. Any thoughts?

Second question what the hell is this hose supposed to go to?

and this would happen from one ride to the next? Sorry if I'm dumb but I'm used to fuel injection. Is Seafoam the answer or tear down and clean?

Unless your carbs have been refreshed before they are full of 30 year old rubber O-rings - gauranteed to be old and hard. It's highly recommned to renew them, along with the intake boot O-rings, as a part of normal maintenance. While you are at it, check the gas tank for crud which can hold open the float needles.

Hi,

The operative phrase here is "I was told the carbs were rebuilt". That means different things to different people. If someone just slammed some cheap carb kit jets in there, that could be your problem.

Click here for the proper procedure. You will want to get an O-ring kit from http://cycleorings.com and replace ALL of the 30 year old rubber inside your carbs. It sounds like you also need new needle valves and seats. You may need a new petcock. Here's an article that explains fuel leaks on these bikes:

You'll also want to check to see if there is gas in your oil. If so, fix the fuel leaks and change the oil before you ride again. Diluted oil is NOT good for GS motors and other living things.

That hose you are pointing to is a vent hose. It just hangs over the back of the airbox. See this page: Where Do These Hoses Go?

Thank you for your reply. I haven't noticed any gas in the oil but will have to look more closely.
