    mercury carb synch tool

So, someone gave me a mercury Motion Pro carb synch tool, without the adapters or actually anything to attach them to the carbs.

The tool sat for a few months but I finally got around to ordered the adapters I needed. Went out to get things ready and, wow, all the mercury was gone!

Somehow, the little tube in back that's supposed to keep all that nasty stuff inside had popped loose and the mercury must have spilled out. I couldn't find it.

Anyway, looked around quite a bit and found few places selling mercury replacement vials. One I found had vials for $30 each.

But, I've read alot on this board about the wonders of the Morgan Carbtune. I'm thinking of just putting that $30 bucks towards the purchase of the Morgan.

Unless there's any sort of alternative fluid I can put in this tool in lieu of mercury.

I'm probably a month away from having $100 to spare for the Morgan. In the meantime, other than the bench synch I gave my carbs last week while cleaning them, is there anything I can do without a tool that will get a better synchronization? The bike is popping a little when it's cold in the morning, and I thought that might be because my carbs aren't synched just right.

I thought I'd read that you could adjust them just by adjusting the idle carb by carb. Or did I read that wrong?

Ooohhh, boy, I hate hitting the enter button on posts like this 'cause I just know I sound like a complete moron.. here goes...

    carb tune

I don't think there is anything but mercury for those to work properly. Same thing happened to me recently. Grabbed it to install on the bike and had the mercury pour out. I stood there shocked and pi$$ed. Dumped it in the garbage can and bought a new one. Didn't want to, but the sync had to be done. You have to have good tools to do the job. With the new one, there is no way the fluid can leak out unless abused. Bob

The Morgan Carb sync tool is great. Made to last a lifetime.. very easy to use.
It takes longer to take the bike apart than to do the adjustments

I have a mercury tool, and spilled out some mercury last time it was used. Have since bought a Carb Tune.

That is pretty much all the endorsement I need! I'll be ordering payday after next.
Is there any particular site that's best to order them? Z1 just has the motionpro, as far as I could see.

Someone gave me a Motion Pro sync tool too... no wonder! I haven't spilled it yet but someday when I grow up I'll get a good one. What a headache mercury is.

Get a Carbtune. Even with the mercury, the MP tool is hard to use junk compared to the Carbtune.

The mercury jumps around so much that it's hard to tell what your settings are, and after a couple of years you inevitably get separations in the mercury columns. And, of course, you're dealing with MP's lame, super-crappy containment system for a poisonous substance that virtually guarantees that the mercury will spill.

MP now sells a different fluid type instrument that uses something else for fluid. I'm sure it still has the same problems, just with a bit less toxicity. No thanks.

Wish I could find the forum where the op bought both the motionpro and the carbtune II and compared them side by side.

The carbtune was recommended for those who sync alot. With the pros being light, easy to transport, no calibration and cons being the need to often clean out the dust from the unit as it causes the rods to hang.

The motionpro was recommended for those who only sync once in awhile. With the pros being accurate, easy to use once set up. The cons being fluid, needing to calibrate and larger than the carbtune.

Tommorow I will be ordering the motion pro as a friend of mine who is stationed at Campbell brought his Venture over today for me to rebuild the carbs, change tires, replace the battery, thermostat and all the hoses.
