will the carbs off a 78 gs550 work on my 82 gs550l? they are a different style than mine as the do not have the diaphragm up top like mine do

 Yes they will work. All you have to do is change the cylinder head and airbox to match.Ed

 Easy to do and with the price of those diaphragms getting stupid it can help if you're on a budget.
