    Hard starting

I have completely cleaned and rebuilt the carbs and some days the bike runs like a top and then other days, it starts really, really hard. I'm thinking my issue might be a vacuum leak even though the intake boots look pretty good. I haven't taken them off to check their gaskets though. Is there a way to test vacuum so I know whether to yank the carbs and replace the boots and gaskets?

get your favorite can of this

while bike is running spray around the boots and such and listen for an increase in rpm's or a decrease....

Better yet, check the valve clearance.

Hard starting, especially when the bike is cold, is a classic symptom of tight valves.

as above but failing them...is it possible it is getting "flooded" (too much gas) ? open throttle wide when it won't start should test for this...

Hi, congratulations, like Steve says, check the valves, id the same problim, hard starting,he had given me the same advice, I did and the change was dramatic, also,if there is a procedure to follow on your bike with the petcock vacuum before starting ? try that.
