Mufflers? We don't need no stinkin' mufflers! (The Treasure of the Sierra Madre - 1948)

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

If you want low-cost but sounds ok, look in an auto graveyard for a car tail box. In bike terms, they're pretty ugly, but give a nice sound. If you're lucky, you'll find an car which was scrapped with a fairly sound system still on it.
One of the best, cheapest, and ugliest XT500s I ever heard/saw used an Escort tailbox as its main baffle box.
