Metal cable ties on carb air box boots
Does anyone see a reason why I should not use the metal zip ties on the carb and air box boots?Tags: None -

That is what I needed to know. Thanks for the help. Do you happen to know what the exhaust diameter is on the GS450. I am looking for mufflers to slip on.Comment

That would depend on the zip tie used and the tool used to tighten it.

And the tool?Comment

That for sure won't get tight enough. The boots have a groove where the clamps lie in and the clamps are a perfect fit to ensure even tightening around the boot and the metal. Even the clamps have to be replaced after some years because they well stretch out and loose their ability to tighten any longer. OEM clamps are not that expensive, I think $3 apiece or something like that.Comment

The Mark 7 Pneumatic (MK7P) is built to perform in demanding production and manufacturing environments. Heavy duty precision parts ensure repeatability in the tensioning process. The MK7P fits comfortably in the operator's hand, reducing hand, arm and wrist fatigue. Due to its ergonomic features, HellermannTyton's MK7P
Except at $835 the correct clamps, even at dealer prices, would be a bargain!Comment

Where have you looked?
I can find them at all the "usual suspects".
Suzuki part number is 09402-54303. Retail price is $3.03. They are found on the "Cylinder Head" fiche.
Even Alpha Sports (the most expensive supplier out there) has them for 'only' $4.09.
Parts Outlaw has them for $2.49.
G&S Suzuki has them for $2.24, but you will likely get more grief and frustration from the 50 cents that you will save.

Thanks Steve. Those seem to be what goes on the cylinder head side of the carb. What about on the air cleaner side?Comment
