Missing Aluminum Carburetor Plug

Hello all!

Long time lurker and new poster. First off, this forum has been amazingly helpful for getting a 1981 GS850G that I stumbled upon owning into a more functional state. Special thanks to BikeCliff and his manuals!

I recently had a co-worker ultrasonic clean my carburetors (Mikuni BS32SS) and as you can see in my picture link (sorry, couldn't seem to upload the pictures), I am missing one of the aluminum "plugs?" from the unit. I for the life of me cannot find an official name for this part or a part number so I can see about replacing it and it would be amazingly helpful if someone could point me in the right direction. I work in IT and consider myself a pretty great Googler... but I have reach my limit on this.

Buy used carb body and hacksaw it apart to extract the plug. That's the only way I know to get a plug, other than making one on a lathe.

It's just a plug from when they drilled the carb passages...nothing special. Long as it doesn't dissolve in gas you can make one out of anything.

Agree, i would not worry about it.

Looking at the hole, and shape of the plug, maybe it is
an option to tap thread in the carb body - looks like there's
enough meat to tap a thread on the smaller part of the hole.
Behead a bolt and saw a slit in the top for a screwdriver,
and use some rtv on the thread.

If that works you have a good seal and also a way to level
out the surface without the need for an o-ring.

Dunno if that's viable, just food for thought.

The plug is tapered and wedges into the hole in the carb body. You do NOT want the plug coming loose and falling into the carb throat where it will get sucked into the engine.

Thanks for the input everyone! It's unfortunate that one cannot simply purchase these plugs, but it's good to know I have options. I'll do my best to reply to this thread once I come up with a solution.

Yep, welch plug. They use them on small engine carbs (string trimmers, blowers, etc.) also.
