can pull plug 1 & 3 and runs the same
i have been dealing with an issue of not getting fuel to cylinder 3 but what does this lead anyone to believe? i put the carbs back on and the bike fires right up and sounds great, but at idle if i pull wires off plugs 1 and 3 there is no change in idle or how the bike sounds. if i try to pull off 2 or 4 there is an immediate change in idle and the bike will stall out. i believe i have fuel to all cylinders now and i know i have good spark at all four and just replaced all boot ends with new ones. i am a few days away from selling this bike and getting something new. i just dont have the time any more and want to ride

I wonder if the carbs are so out of sync, when at idle, 2 and 4 are open enough but 1 + 3 are closed. If the main idle adjust turns easily clock wise, you probably are closed on 3. Not sure if this is mechanically possible though.i have been dealing with an issue of not getting fuel to cylinder 3 but what does this lead anyone to believe? i put the carbs back on and the bike fires right up and sounds great, but at idle if i pull wires off plugs 1 and 3 there is no change in idle or how the bike sounds. if i try to pull off 2 or 4 there is an immediate change in idle and the bike will stall out. i believe i have fuel to all cylinders now and i know i have good spark at all four and just replaced all boot ends with new ones. i am a few days away from selling this bike and getting something new. i just dont have the time any more and want to ride

Whats a dick skinner? I agree, no way they can be that far off.
Mybe try swapping em. Put the working wires on the non working cylinders.
Check to make sure the header pipes are getting hot. Dont grab em, spit on em.Comment

all four exhaust pipes coming off the manifold are hot and have no leaks. the carbs were synched by a bike mechanic that used to work at a local shop for years. i can swap the wires to all the plugs and it still does the same thing?Comment

If the pipes are hot then they're running.
Whats was the question again?
When I first got mine running I thought it was running right too, sounded great in the garage. Turned out I couldnt tell one of the coils was not hooked up till I tried to ride it down the street. It was powerless.Comment

Are the pipes hot after riding it or just warmed up at idle? If 1 and 3 aren't firing at idle, and its a carb sync issue, then they wouldn't be warm if you fired up and left it at idle with no throttle. If the pipes are hot then they're running.

Just a thought, but lets say he tried to sync a 4 cylinder with a 2 cylinder tool. Did all the swapping around to be sure, etc. and when finished lowered the idle back down to ~1100. When you rev does your throttle drop down to idle fast or does it ramp down a little slowly?Comment

Do you have the coils hooked up to the correct plugs?
Normally, the left coil is for 1 and 4, and the right coil runs 2 and 3.
Just askin'... when you talk about pulling 1 and 3 and it doesn't make a difference, it leads me to believe that these are erroneously hooked up to the same coil.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

i believe i have them hooked up right, but could someone give me a diagram to make sure. something simple. or explain the way they should be a little better. when i am sitting on the bike looking at the carbs i consider the far left to be number one and work my way to the right. so far left is 1 next 2 next 3 and far right is 4. obviously there is a coil on the left side and one on the right. keeping this theory how should they be wired? thanks for all the help guys.
