Hello:
I have used iridium plugs and have not noticed any performance enhancement. They are not worth the money.
Bosch Platimum plugs on the other hand work well in cars for longer service intervals and I have used them and am amazed by them. -

Go with the B8ES.
Spark plug hype is just that, hype. I always use what the manufacturer recommended in everything I own.Comment

The main thing with iridium plugs is they are more durable than regular plugs - sort of like using synthetic oil. The cost is higher but they last longer and should be less prone to fouling. Many OE car companies are going with iridium plugs these days because they can last up to 100,000 miles. Try that with a B8ES.

They won't last that long in a primitive engine with stone age ignition and without fuel injection.Comment

Its not unusual for a modern vehicle to exceed 100k with most any type plug. Along with other things, today's strict emissions laws demand a much cleaner burning engine. They burn much cleaner than a 30 year old air cooled motorbikeThe main thing with iridium plugs is they are more durable than regular plugs - sort of like using synthetic oil. Sounds like all the more reason to want some new technology plugs.
Found a nice SAE White Paper article about iridium spark plug development... http://www.sparkplugs.com/pdfs/iri.pdf
Bottom line is the small electrode in the iridium plug will shoot a spark with less voltage, not wear as fast, and fire in leaner mixture conditions than a regular spark plug. Superior technology...but at higher cost.Last edited by Nessism; 02-19-2011, 08:55 AM.Ed
