Stator swap 12 pole vs 18

My stock 1977 Stator went(12 pole). So I ordered a new one off ebay Installed and it's not charging. Didn't realize there were two types 12 pole and 18. I installed a 18 pole. Whats the difference? Where can I get a 12 pole? Only used ones on ebay

Looking at the "interference fit" on that stator, look like you probably need a rotor
as well.

Ha Ha Yes. When I say it went it was due to me dropping the bike on the cover while it was running. However the rotor was unscathed. Im wondering why the 18 pole fits but wont charge...

I found an old thread from 2008 explaining the difference and saying if I use the 18 I have to swap to the 1980 and later rotor so the magnets line up. Its cheaper to get a rotor off ebay but obviously more work. Ill just buy a new 12 pole for like 80 bucks. Just sucks they are double the price of the 18 pole ones.

No I have not. I bought a new R/R off ebay. These are No Good?

As with most things, there is "Good", "Better" and "Best". The one you show is in the "Good" category. Yes, it will charge the battery and run the bike, but tends to stress the stator. Much better (actually into the "Best" category) is a unit from a Polaris RAZR utility vehicle. Prices for new ones have skyrocketed lately, but good used ones are in the $40-45 range from eBay. You have to shop carefully, as there are many sellers that say that their 'new' R/R will "fit Polaris RAZR" or "replaces stock regulator" or similar wording, but it's not an official Polaris part.

I bought a caltric 18 pole on ebay because they mistakenly listed it as for 1977-79. 35 bucks free ship from Caltric. They make the correct one but dont have it listed. I found it else where for 65 bucks but they want 16 to ship. UGGG.12p.jpg

Yeah I searched and found all the knock offs. I dont need to strees out my new stator but OEM Polaris parts are 100+ and up. Caltric makes a stator to fit but so does electrosport makes one too.12p.jpg

Plenty of genuine used polaris units, like this item. Note in the listing that it specifies the polaris part #4012941:
