see the white/green wire leave the stator, travel a long way just to make a loop, change to white/red, then travel a long way back to connect to the R/R. This is what is being taken out of the charging circuit when we say "remove the useless headlamp loop".

Rich, Phydeauxmutt - you're correct.
I am used to the lights switch where this stator leg loop is switched,
for USA that's different.Rijk

Well it looks like my stator is bad. I don't know if it was the new R/R or I missed something before. 2 legs to ground read ~25.0 VAC and one leg reads ~16.0 VAC to ground. So who do I order a stator from?Dale

Electrosport (mine), Caltric, Ricks. Haven’t read anything bad about any stators from these 3, as long as you keep the connections clean, all should last a long time.Rich

Measure the three stator leads to each other. AB BC AC
Measure each of the stator leads for connectivity to ground (there shouldn't be any)... and a multi meter doesn't really have enough power to do this, I used to use a insulation tester designed for power transmission, in a pinch I've used household 110V AC. A multi meter has a 9v battery, at best, for power

I originally had measured the stator lead resistance phase to phase and to ground. I also measured VAC phase to phase and to ground. All tested good. If I remember correctly, if you measure leg to ground that means you have insulation breakdown. Unfortunately I'm retired now and don't have access to a megohmmeter any more.
Are there any tips to replacing the stator? I know about the 2 X 4 under the center stand.Dale

Rick's and Electrosport stators are ~$150 while the Caltric is ~$38. That's either a lot of markup or Caltric is using cheap parts or methods. Glad to hear some have had good results though.Dale
