    GS1000S tripmeter won’t reset?

    Like the subject says….

Ever since I bought my 1980 GS1000S earlier this year, the tripmeter has given me fits. Sometimes, it resets with a single push. Other times, it takes a dozen or more attempts before it suddenly resets. Today, nothing would make it work. I wiggled and pushed and twisted and everything I could think of, with no luck.

Does anybody have any words of wisdom to share? Fortunately the fuel gauge works, but I very much like using my tripmeter for a gas remaining sanity check….

I bought an 81 1100E, it would not reset except on a rare occasion, I bought a different gauge cluster, it would not re-set either. I sprayed some WD 40 in from behind, and while trying to turn the numbers with my finger something went snap and now it works. I got it further apart and cleaned the inside of the lens and the face. I turned the odometer with a drill and an old piece of speedometer cable, it repeatedly re-set.
I have not installed it into the bike yet, but I got new niche brake rotors today and plan to service the neck bearings and swap the gauges too.

Good luck, hope it's all good... Also my "83" GS1100E the trip quit resetting.

Okay thanks! My motorcycle mechanic has a GS1100. He’s going to be installing new fork springs on my GS next week and I’m going to sic him on the gauges too (I have numerous gauge bulbs burned out also)

My '83 11E trip meter won't reset either. And when I got inside to replace bulbs (on the original '82 unit), I found that their rubber housings had melted, making most of the blown bulbs impossible to remove.

Good thing about the original 1982 85mph speedo: a New Jersey State Trooper, who pulled me over after he'd clocked me north of 90 said, "Well, you couldn't have known how fast you were going."

Fraud! Rigged radar! I want a recount!

2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.
