Red loctite question

I know the stuff is made for metal to metal applications, but i was wondering has anyone used it to secure screws in to plastic that keep wiggling loose?

Ive never tried..the situation is this..The left mirror on the Cooley keeps wiggling the screw that holds the body to the stem loose. I have to pop out the mirror now end then and retighten the screw. I was thinking of ways to permanently secure the screw and be done with it once and for all. Possible fixes that ive thought of include filling the screw hole with absslurry and redrilling a center and letting the screw recut threads, filling with 5 minute epoxy and then screwing in the screw and let harden. The this morning i had the idea of red loctite, but wasnt sure if it would bond to the plastic.

I haven't tried Red Loctite for that application, but if it did work, you'd break the plastic getting it out

Same with Superglue, which should work

But, I'd think a helicoil, or Plastifix would do the job

Chuck, put a drop of blue on the threads, let it harden and then thread it into the hole.

T...Thats my goal..to never remove it or have it remove itself.

Thanks Dale..it tightens just fine but the threads arent gripping on the screw as they were new, so i suspect thats the problem with it backing out all the time.

Is the fastener long enough and/or threads strong enough to add a lock washer or something that might help press the threads and screw together?

Its the stock screw. The top of the stem has kind of a bowl shape and theres no way to cinch it up that i can see. I wanna get it right once before i have to beg Larry for a 200% profit on one of his..LOL

Loctite is well-known to degrade plastic.

You'll end up with a bigger hole and some plastic dust.

Any way you can run a longer screw and put a nylock or a prevailing torque nut on the end?

Prep the hole and screw, glue in the hole, Bolt it on, Press it together

Teflon tape? I don't know, just tossing it out there.

Personally, I wouldn't want it non-removable.

I'm with octain, I wouldn't want it non-removable. As Murphy's law goes once your make it non-removable you'll find a reason you need to remove it. Blue Loctite?
