Mystery Rubber part; under seat near side panel

About to put on newly rebuilt carbs. While fishing for battery tender cable, I knocked this off. Haven?t checked parts fiches yet. Can someone tell where this goes (?80 GS1100LT)?

Just a cushion for the battery that's stuck to the inside of the battery box. The adhesive gave up after a few decades.

Looks like the rear pad that the fuel tank sits on usually there's a flat steel strip that it sits on no 10 on pic.

I think you are right. That makes sense, since I had removed the tank to get to the carbs. Thanks!

Yep, after another look that's a double thickness of rubber so the tank pad makes sense. I thought it was a lot thinner.
