    Tachometer output shaft 'O' ring

I have a 1981 gs850gl that has developed a leak in the tachometer shaft. Is there a source where I can get the o ring without buying the whole gasket? How hard are they to install?

Yes, there are two seals. If this link works they are #27 &28. They might vary by application, so Id check to be sure.

          removal and instal

I looked at the picture and it looks really easy. Any hidden problems? Just take the screw out, remove the items, replace the o rings and re-install. Any special tools needed? Will oil run out of it what I do this? Help appreciated.

Nope. It really is that easy. Youll get a little oil when you pull the drive gear but its nothing you cant wipe up with a rag.

                  oh no!

This was really easy however, when I went to re-install the screw to hold the retaining clip, the screw broke! Does anyone know wha the threads and size of this screw so I can pick one up before I try to extract the old one?

                    It's a 5mm thread X .80mm pitch.

                    I don't know the length, but it's probably 10mm or 12mm.
