won't stay running
I have a 1982 GS450T and the bike will idle, but when I throttle up it bogs down and stalls. The bike hasn't been started for years and there was gas in the tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. CraigTags: None -

Rinse out the old gas from the tank. Follow this http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_carbrebuild.htm
Buy these http://www.cycleorings.com/
And get a new petcock. Don't even mess with the old one.
When you get it running run it for awhile and do a compression check and post the numbers.
Do a check of the charging system with the stator papers http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_garage.htm
Clean all the grounds and use dielectric grease on all connections. -

chef1366, I thought after reading some of the other post that I'm going to have to do the 0 rings. I appreciated the response. Thanks CraigComment

The carbs will eventually bite you in the rear.
I too had this as my first project bike that had been sitting for over 5 years with gas in it. Only had 19,000 miles. New battery and gas and got it running. This to see if it was worth restoring or just part it out?
I thought I got it cleaned out and the bowls rinsed with carb cleaner but after a couple months of steady riding gas suddenly started running out one vent hose onto the exhaust....stuck float. I replaced the petcock and hoses too as they were shot. Put an inline filter on the gas line.
The carb bowls were filled with what I will call "green snot" so I was amazed that it ran so well for so long. After a thorough cleaning it ran well until I sold it and moved on to a bigger bike
