    550 coil interchangable?

Is there any other gs that I can use the coils from? I have a 1,4 and 2,3 coil setup. I think my coils may be bad but I don't want to spend a 120 bucks on new coils to find out that they were good:?. Any advise? Thanks

Yes, coils from any four cylinder GS will work.

Coils from many other more modern bikes will work as well, but I don't have specifics.

One possible exception to interchanging coils is if you are using points. Point ignition systems take coils with more resistance, 4.5 ohms, compared to CDI ingition systems - 3 or less.

Whoops, forgot about the dinosaurs with points... I didn't know the coils were different. :-D

This also illustrates that when you ask a question, it's an extremely good idea to give more information about what model you're working on than just displacement. There were a lot of GS550 models for many years, and some of the differences are pretty important.
